Red Sea Winery was founded by Uri Shachar in 2002 in Moshav Shekef in the Negev, and in 2006 moved to the entrance of Eilat, making it the southernmost winery in Israel and the northern hemisphere. Uri’s love of wine was the driving force behind the establishment of the family’s winery, which focuses on the pairing of wine and cuisine. The surrounding vineyards were first planted in 2016, and the first wine bottled in 2019.
The vineyards span 18 dunams, with syrah, petit syrah, cabernet franc, ruby cabernet, chenin blanc, and chardonnay grapes growing. In good years, the winery makes a special wine, Italian Amarone, made of grapes dried out on straw mats in the desert sun. Over 20 medals have been awarded to the winery through international competitions.
Guided tours, wine tastings, workshops, as well as events andsocial gatherings take place at the winery. Nearby there are an assortment of hiking trails and the red sea.
