Moa Winery

Our Story

In 1984, Yehuda and Tzvia Friedman, a young couple with their little girl in tow, arrived at Moshav Tzofar in the Arava. Yehuda’s dream of farming in Israel came to fruition as they built the family farm on the moshav. Over the years they grew a range of crops sold in Israel and abroad. In 2014, they decided to chase another dream and open a small family winery. A vacant packaging facility, two unused industrial refrigerators empty for over a decade, and a basic winemaking course, granted the family the tools necessary to make wine in the Arava, and since then their winery has grown.

Our Wine

Marked by the first harvest in 2015, the family embarked on their journey into the world of wine by way of innovation and hard work. The winery is now an inseparable part of the family who work together from harvest, through production and tasting, and up until the pouring of the cool wine into the glass.

Grapes used come from Mishor HaRuchot in Mitzpe Ramon, located 760 meters above sea level, to produce wine that is emblematic of the Incense Route and desert, today an inseparable part of their family. When the Incense Route was used to transport luxury goods from the Arabian Peninsula to the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, the advantages of growing grapes and producing quality wines in the desert were discovered. Combined, the powerful desert sun, sharp temperature drops between day and night, loess soil, and aridity, together award the wine grapes their unique desert character.

What to do

At the visitors center you can taste their wines, along with Negev cheeses and fresh produce from the farm (in season). Private and corporate events are held at the winery, in an exceptional atmosphere, enriched by Negev wine and cheeses.
