Neot Semadar Winery

Our Story

The winery is an integral part of Kibbutz Neot Semadar, established in 1989 with the intention of creating a learning community in which questions about one’s state in the world are examined through relationships, action and observation. The boutique winery produces organic wines from the onsite vineyard.

Our Wine

In the vineyard, grapes such as muscat canelli, cabernet franc, sauvignon blanc, syrah, and shiraz grow and develop rich character as an outcome of the desert climate. The distinctive wines are a gift of the veiled virtues of the desert: drastic temperature drops between day and night, little irrigation, and dry, salty soil. The vines grow in a clean, bio-organic environment that enhance the grapes and sustain the earth. Made through a natural process and in accordance with organic standards, Neot Semadar wines have won medals both in Israel and internationally. The approach of the winemakers is fresh, combining existing knowledge with a daring desire to innovate. The grapes are fermented using only wild yeast, appearing as a luminous white powder, found in the skins of the grape. Using coarse filtration and minimal sulphur for preservation, the wine is made in accordance with organic standards with no additional preservatives.

What to do

A day long tour at Neot Semadar includes exploration of the Artist House courtyard, gallery, short film telling the kibbutz’s story, majestic vistas, and tastings at the winery. Visitors can also participate in writing, craft, and music workshops.
