Shomriya Orchards

Our Story

Kibbutz Shomriya was established in 1985 by Hashomer Hatzair youth movement on its 70th anniversary. In 2006, after the displacement from Gush Katif, members of Atzmona relocated to the kibbutz. Out of desire to continue to settle a desolate region, in 2008 new settlers began planting olive groves in the desert soil. In 2009, they planted vineyards on the kibbutz.

Our Wine

In Shomriya 400 dunams of wine grapes grow, including: muscat alexandroni, merlot, petit syrah, sauvignon blanc, viognier, petit verdot, gewurztraminer and french colombard. The aridity, adjoined with cold temperature drops at night, benefit the grapes and produce fine wine. An additional 230 dunam of koreniki and arbekina olive groves grow on the land.

What to do

Wine tasting is available on site, and there are many hikes in the area.
