Eran Raz, “Nana” is one of the leading vintners who transformed Mitzpe Ramon into a desirable area, before which no one believed that quality wine grapes could be grown in the region. Nana came to Mitzpe Ramon with knowledge and experience acquired in other growing areas of Israel, and his vision came to fruition on ancient desert terraces.
The vineyard traverses 100 dunams planted in Mitzpe Ramon at the upper channel of the Zin River, 800 meters above sea level, and grows varieties that thrive in extreme desert conditions – barbera, grenache, viognier, malbec, sauvignon blanc, syrah, semillon, petit verdot, petit syrah, French colombard, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, chenin blanc, and chardonnay. Nana Estate Winery vineyards enjoy the rich, loess soil and extreme temperature drops. Together the climate and soil award the grapes a uniquely ‘desert’ character.
The winemaker, Dana Benny, has worked in vintages in various parts of Europe, South Africa, and California. She draws inspiration expressed in the wines from a new world style, combined with the old-world heritage, and thus awakens the taste of the Mitzpe Ramon region.
Wine tastings, a variety of sleeping accommodations, and several hikes in the majestic desert.
