Yoav and Ilana Rabany’s farm, located on the southern slopes of the Nabatean city of Avdat is one the richest historic locations of winemaking in the country and showcases five wine presses that are thousands of years old. The vineyard was planted in 2005 on the same ancient terraces of Avdat where wine grapes grew 2,700 years ago. Situated at the foot of the city’s Roman villa, the terroir delivers grapes carrying outstanding qualities and unique flavors.
At Da’at Farm 100 dunams of merlot and cabernet sauvignon grapes grow. Most of the grapes are sold to other wineries in the Negev, while they also make several bottles for themselves. Each day, Yoav rigorously records detailed reports on what he did. The handwritten notebooks are organized in the couple’s living room and are overflowing with irrigation data, pruning, and more.
Surrounding the farm there are several, varied trails, for those traveling by foot, bicycle, or jeep.
