In 2009, the Marom family planted Eshkolot Vineyard at Ruchot Junction, near Mitzpe Ramon. The family embarked on their vision to build an educational farm for local travelers and international tourists to learn about traditional desert farming practices. The vineyard is located at the foot of a cistern, by the remnants of a fortress, highlighting the vision of reviving desert viniculture to all those who visit. Olive groves grow on most of the agricultural land, alongside vineyards and Israel’s blessed seven species.
The nationally and internationally award-winning, Marom Olive Oil is pressed using three varieties of olives that grow in extreme desert conditions, characterized by their unique aroma: souri, picual, and barnea.
Clusters of organic, Mishor Wine grapes including shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, and chenin blanc, grow at optimal elevation, in a dry climate, with drastic temperature drops between day and night, and cold winter spells. Grapes are hand-picked and become wine through a long and meticulous process led by one of the top winemakers in Israel.
At the vineyard, guests are welcome to take part in engaging desert agriculture educational tours. Visitors meet the farmer, tour the vineyard, learn about the unique challenges, and experience demonstrations of ancient agricultural techniques. Furthermore, interactive self-guided tours including fun games and navigation activities for the whole family are available with advanced booking.
